Shop Owner Fights Back To Robber

Filed under: School Work — bridiem3 at 2:56 pm on Monday, October 27, 2008

Mr Sharpe had recently moved from Wellington to Nelson and was the proud new owner of the Suburban Store. But not all things were as great as they seem. At 7.45pm a teenager came into the store and had his back to the counter. Mr Sharpe went to say hello to him thinking nothing was wrong until the teenager turned around. He was wearing a hoodie and dark sunglasses and held a broken bottle to Mr Sharpes face. He demanded money which Mr Sharpe gave to him and also demanded ciggarettes. Before he gave the ciggarettes Mr Sharpe decided enough was enough and threw the till at him. At that point Mrs Sharpe walked in and even though the till did hit the teenager he was able to run away. Police arrested him 10 minutes later and he will appear in youth court. He was 15 years old and will be charged with aggravated robbery. Mr Sharpe said the event has not put them off their buisness and they are happy to continue.

I think Mr Sharpe did a great thing and he did it to protect himself. Teenagers like this should not get away with it and I am glad he has been arrested. Shop owners shouldn’t have to worry about being burgled or shot when they are in their own store. These people are getting away with it too much and I think all shop owners should stand up like Mr Sharpe did.

Wow! That’s amazing!

That must have been a really scary moment, having that happen to you.

I agree, that teenager shouldn’t get away with it. He would just keep doing it if he thinks he won’t get caught. And I think that maybe they could have a bit of security added in shops for owners safety as well, but the thing is that it could be a bit expensive for the owners.
